The Chesapeake Sports Club Celebrated Past and Present

Chesapeake Sports Club President Larry Zoeller had the pleasure of acknowledging four local students as Outstanding High School Athlete for the Spring Season at the club's last meeting. Grant Holloway (Grassfield, Track & Field), Alina Creamer (Grassfield, Tennis), Bennett Thomas (Grassfield, Tennis), and Ebony White (Western Branch, Track & Field) were the honorees. The club continued to honor those in attendance by recognizing Earnest "Rabbit" Howard as the most recent Legends of Honor Award recipient. The award was established to acknowledge former outstanding athletes, coaches, and individuals for their athletic performance, leadership and/or contributions to athletics in Chesapeake. Rounding out the luncheon meeting was a familiar voice to those in the area: Jack Ankerson, the "Voice" of the Norfolk Tides as well as the football team and basketball teams for Old Dominion University. Jack spoke to the club about his experiences with the American Basketball Association, and particularly of his time as the General Manager of the Virginia Squires.
